Alton,

Just a personal note to say "Thank you!" for expediting my request for my DD-214. My California Driver's License was due to expire on my 70th birthday (.which was yesterday, July 24th). In the process of assembling the necessary documents, Driver's Manual, etc., I discovered that it was now possible for Honorably Discharged veterans to have their veteran status noted on their driver's license. However, it required the applicant to provide a copy of their DD-214. Unfortunately for me, my DD-214, Honorable Discharge, high school diploma and college B.A. Degree are all in a safe deposit box located in San Mateo, California, over 600 miles from San Diego.

As I had to renew my license by yesterday in order to continue driving legally, I was fervently hoping that you might be able to provide me with my military documentation before my visit to the local DMV.

This note is to advise you that I received it from you on Monday, July 23rd, in time for me to present it to the DMV and, as a result, making it possible to note my veteran status on my driver's license. It arrived at the "11th hour" - but it arrived before my renewal deadline. I just wanted to say how grateful I am to you and your staff for "moving mountains" to make that happen! It was a great 70th birthday present for me.

Many thanks again!

Sincerely,

Donald Bruce Shelton

P.-S. This afternoon, I received via USPS Priority Mail my VETRECS Card, additional copies of my DD-214, etc. I will be certain to keep them in a safe place.
